Barbecue Tips For This Summer

Almost everyone loves to barbecue and that is why we have listed 14 tips. Good preparation is half the battle, so make sure you have good equipment and the right quality meat for a perfect barbecue evening!

1. You light the barbecue one hour in advance. This gives the barbecue enough time to reach the right temperatures.
2. Place a mound of charcoal in the barbecue. You place firelighters in between, which you then light. Follow the instructions on the packaging of the barbecue/charcoal/firelighter. When the charcoal glows well, it can be spread over the barbecue.
3. When the flames are out and the charcoal or briquettes are turning almost gray, the barbecue has reached the right heat to grill the meat nicely. This can sometimes take up to an hour!
4. Add new coals in time, so you don't have to light the barbecue again.
5. You want to turn meat as little as possible. For the professionals among us, 1x is sufficient.
6. Brushing the meat on the grid regularly with oil will keep the meat juicier.
7. Use tongs (not a fork) to place the meat on the grid and turn it over. This keeps the meat juices in the meat.
8. Pat marinated meat dry with kitchen paper before roasting.
9. Never sprinkle salt on the meat beforehand; moisture appears, which makes it difficult to brown.
10. Do not pull any meat sticking to the grid. Leave it for a while, it will come off on its own later.
11. On a charcoal barbecue, meat that needs the most heat should be roasted first. Start from the following order and pay close attention to the color:

  • 1st beef (steak) red/rose
  • 2nd veal and lamb, skewers pink/cooked
  • 3rd pork and papillotes completely cooked
  • 4th pre-cooked products such as: sausages, spare ribs, chicken products, kebabs.

12. With a barbecue with an adjustable grid, you can regulate the temperature by raising or lowering the grid. Cooked meat can be closer to the fire than raw meat. After all, raw meat takes longer to cook.
13. If you work with an electric barbecue, lay the cord firmly on the ground and watch out for rain.
14. Gas bottles should always be placed upright next to the barbecue.
