Emergency hammer mandatory in the car?

An emergency hammer in the car is not mandatory in the Netherlands. But in the Netherlands an average of 60 people die each year because a car hits the water. This is 60 too many! Can this be prevented with an emergency hammer? In any case, it makes it much easier to get out of your car during an emergency. If you end up upside down in the water, loosening your seat belt is not so easy. Is your whole car under water? Then breaking your car window is not as easy as you think. Striking with force is almost impossible under water. Nowadays you also have emergency hammers / life hammers with a coil spring system, with which you will even break your window even if your car is under water.

On Monday 11 July 2016, RTV Drenthe conducted a small investigation into whether the emergency hammer should be a mandatory item in the car. 91% of all voters agree. And why not? The newer cars are often already equipped with an emergency hammer/life hammer as standard.
