Ticks are often invisible to the naked eye, which makes the small spider-like creature even more dangerous. In most cases, you only discover a tick after it has bitten into your skin and engorged itself with blood. Have you been in a wooded area or have you walked in the tall grass? Then check yourself carefully. Ticks are often found in grass, shrubs or heather. If you go outside during the tick season, make sure you always have tick tweezers nearby. The tick clings to the skin with small barbs and it is therefore very important to remove the tick properly.
Do not mess with tweezers, your nails or alcohol. With a tick remover you remove the tick much better and faster. If the tick is not removed properly, the head will remain and the risk of inflammation of the wound is greater.
Never remove a tick with alcohol or a hot/burning object, the tick can also be startled and spray saliva into the wound in response. This increases the risk of infection with Lyme disease. Preferably remove the tick within 8 hours to reduce the risk of infection.

- You remove ticks with a special tick remover!
- Never use alcohol, soap or fire to remove a tick! This increases the risk of diseases.
How to remove a tick with tick tweezers?
- Use pointed tweezers or good tick tweezers.
- Try to grab the tick as close to the skin as possible by the head and not to squeeze the tick's body. (see images further down the page)
- Carefully pull the tick straight out of the skin using tweezers or tick tweezers.
- Do not irritate the tick with oil, alcohol or fire, etc., this may increase the risk of infection!
- After removing the tick, disinfect the bite wound with 70% alcohol or iodine.
- The faster and more carefully removed, the smaller the chance of contamination.
- Tip! note the date and place of a tick bite; this is useful if it later turns out that one has been infected. The tick bite can already be forgotten.
