Sneekermeer Terhorne – Diamond painting – Special edition
We have currently designed several new canvases in collaboration with photographer Jaap Terpstra. Most of the photos were taken in Friesland, and show the beautiful Frisian landscape.
One of these Diamond painting canvases is the canvas with the Sneekermeer Terhorne.
Sneeker Lake Terhorne
The Sneekermeer is mainly known for its great popularity with water sports enthusiasts. Snitser Mar originated in the Middle Ages as a result of peat extraction. A sand ridge known as the Gravinneweg (Gravinnewei) runs through the Sneekermeer. In earlier times this sand ridge was used to wade through the Sneekermeer when the water level was low.
The Sneekermeer consists of, among other things, the actual lake itself, the Goëngarijpsterpoelen, the Zoutepoel and the Gauwster Hoppen. The Sneekermeer is connected to the Langweerderwielen via the Noorder Oudeweg, and to the city of Sneek via the Houkesloot. The Princess Margriet Canal runs through the lake. Southwest of the lake is the Geeuwpolder, a nature reserve owned by Staatsbosbeheer.
Water sports facilities are available on and around the lake, such as a speedboat track, several marinas, and a starting tower for sailing competitions.
Remarkably enough, Sneek is not located directly on the lake and the lake is for the most part not located in the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân, of which the city of Sneek is a part, but in the neighboring municipality of De Friese Meren.
